Georgia is one of the world’s most diverse countries: it lies only a few hours between the high mountains of the Great Caucasus in the north and the subtropical, palm-fringed shores of the Black Sea in the west.

Georgia is also culturally extremely diverse. 26 different ethnic groups live in the small Caucasus republic, where apart from the official language Georgian, Megrelian, Svan, Laz, and Abkhazian ​​are spoken, too. The Georgian language is neither a Slavic nor a Persian language. It belongs to the South Caucasian languages.
