Eniseli is a typical Kakhetian village. It is located between Kvareli and Telavi in the northern part of the Alazani Valley at the foothills of the Caucasus mountains.
Eniseli used to be famous for its brandy factory which nowadays no longer exists. Different from its neighboring villages Gremi and Shilda, where several bigger wine factories produce larger amounts of wine, in Eniseli people mostly produce their home-made wine to drink with friends and family.
In 2020, Fabio, a Swiss immigrant and the only foreigner in Eniseli, started to produce natural wines in Eniseli. He only uses the grapes grown in his own organic vineyard near Kvareli, and all his wines are handmade and natural. His small company is called Inavarde Wines, they produce wines from the varieties Kisi, Rkatsiteli, Khikhvi, and Saperavi – both in underground clay amphorae (Qvevri) and in stainless steel barrels.
On several of our tours, we visit Inavarde Wines for lunch and/or a wine tasting.
