Dendrological Park in Shekvetili

Shekvetili Dendrological Park is a new touristic destination and quite unique in the Caucasus Region. Located in the Black Sea coast in the Ozurgeti region, Georgia this setting will be the best location for study and enjoy nature landscape.

Definition of «dendrological»

Before describing our destination we should clarify the meaning of «dendrological». Dendrology is the botanical study of trees and other woody plants, also it is the branch of botany that studies trees.

In the park, 18 hectares are dedicated to the tree species endemic to Georgia.

Flora and Fauna

Incorporating 60 hectares of land, this garden features thousand od species of local and exotic flora in full splendor. The dendrology park consist of two tentative sections:

18 hectares dedicated to the tree species endemic to Georgia, replanted from different regions of our country. The collection brings together more than 200 gigantic samples of 39 uniques species. The remaining 42 hectares showcase thousand of exotic woody plants imported over the years from five continents.

The 60-hectare garden combines thousands of species of local and world exotic flora.

The Dendrological Park brings together unique species of trees from all over Georgia: cypress, magnolia, cedar, oak, chadar, maple, eucalyptus and others. The bamboo forest is also cultivated. In order for the visitor to get complete information about the plant, special banners are placed. Some trees are over 300 years old.

The construction of the dendrological park started in 2017 on the initiative of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of the ruling party Georgian Dream.

Flamingos, pelicans and other exotic species

An artificial lake located in the center of the park is about six meters deep. The depth is tailored to the needs of the birds that live near the lake. Visitors can find pink flamingos, pelicans, storks, and over 50 species of birds.

The Shekvetili Dendrological Park has been opened for visitors on 15 July 2020. Those who wish can visit the park absolutely free of charge, that's why it is quite crowded in this summer and will be more beautiful in autumn with less crowds.
